Morgan Glen Iris is the most recent assisted living apartment development that McMullin, acting as Development Project Manager, has completed for long-term clients, BASSCare.
This $40 million development is in a highly desirable, green, leafy suburb at 14 Elizabeth Street, Glen Iris. The vista is enhanced by the meandering creek that runs along the back of the property, giving an unusually treed outlook from the apartments for such a suburban location. Purchases have commented on the appeal of feeling like they are making a ‘tree change’ whilst maintaining all the conveniences that come with suburban living.
This building includes 62 one and two-bedroom luxury assisted living apartments and well as a range of shared spaces including a gym, cinema, underground car parking and storage, as well as housing a restaurant style commercial kitchen.
Specifically designed to offer a new form of senior living, Morgan Glen Iris has been thoughtfully laid out to effectively offer ‘apartments with service’.
With a particular focus on some domestic and hospitality assistance, Morgan Glen Iris facilitates independent living through their flexibility in offering various support levels, ensuring that every need is catered for now and well into the future. This support style means residents can focus on what is important to them at a particular stage of their life, allowing them to age in place gracefully.
Construction of Morgan Glen Iris has taken 18-months, with the expected completion being in late May 2021. The first residents are expected to move in from July 2021. This timeframe has including working through the challenging 2020 COVID lockdowns. Whilst this did slow construction, the project continued to progress with only one month lost due to labour restrictions.
McMullin has acted as the Development Project Manager, with our involvement start with this project back in 2015 with an early due diligence review. Since then, McMullin’s experience aged care and retirement living project managers have managed the environmental audit process; assisted BASScare with the feasibilities study and then managed the design, town planning, VCAT, tender and construction phases.
Buxton Construction was the Project Builder and the Architect & Interior Designer was Smith & Tracey.
